Kidde Smoke Detectors
Kidde Company has been protecting families from fire and its related hazards for over 90 years. They are the market leaders and are trusted by firefighters, the military and the airline industry. Kidde is based in Mebane, NC and is part of UTC Fire and Safety, which is a business unit of United Technologies Corporation. United Technologies Corporation is company that provides technology products to aerospace and commercial building companies.
Kidde Smoke detectors are one of the least expensive ways to protect a family from a fire. When they are properly installed and tested, they are the first line of defense and warning against such dangers. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) states that in 1 out of 5 homes which have smoke alarms, the units do not work. This is mainly due to dead, disconnected or missing batteries (www.nfpa.org). Kidde Smoke detectors in the home can save lives if they are properly maintained. Always use new batteries for alarms. Do not use batteries from other sources such as remote controls. Using new batteries will guarantee the alarm’s use for a greater amount of time.
Along with maintenance, choosing the proper type of smoke detector is beneficial to your family. There are two forms of technology to detect fires: Ionization sensing smoke detectors and photoelectric sensing smoke detectors.
• Kidde Ionization Smoke Detectors - detect the invisible fire particles from a fast flaming fire.
• Kidde Photoelectric Smoke detectors - detect the visible fire particles in the case of a slow, smoldering fire.
Kidde produces both of these alarms and they are available for purchase. In addition to these alarms, Kidde produces an alarm that has both types of technology to optimize safety in the home. Once the type of alarm has been chosen, there are 2 different models that Kiddie offers. These alarms battery powered and wire-in powered.
Battery powered alarms are the most inexpensive way to protect against fires. Battery operated alarms continue to work during power outages when batteries have been replaced regularly. Kidde’s battery powered alarms are easily installed and each model includes a test button, power indicator light, battery lock, and an indicator warning for low battery.
They have several models for battery operated alarms which include:
• Model i9080 - Smoke Alarm, Safety Light, Ionization Sensor
• Model i9060 - Smoke Alarm, Ionization Sensor
• Model PE9 - Smoke Alarm, Photoelectric Sensor
• Model PI9000- Smoke Alarm, Dual Sensor, Photoelectric & Ionization
Kidde offers a wide variety of 120V AC wire-in alarms. They have the capability of interconnecting with one another in order to provide immediate response. When any one of the alarms is triggered by smoke or fire, then all of the connected alarms sound in order to give an immediate warning. Kidde offers a large variety of these smoke detectors. Here is a sample of models they produce:
• Model i12020 - Smoke Alarm, AC powered, ionization smoke detector that operates on a 120V power source.
• Model P12040 - Smoke Alarm, AC/DC powered, photoelectric smoke detector that operates on a 120V power source with 9V battery backup.
• Model Pi2010 - Smoke Alarm, AC/DC powered, dual sensor smoke alarm that operates on a 120V power source with 9V battery backup.
Kidde has produced products that have kept residents and workers safe for over 90 years. As you can see, they have a wide variety of options available. With the proper smoke detector and regular maintenance, you can rest assured knowing that Kidde cares about your family’s safety.
